10th Anniversary

Ryan and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary on May 15th! I have had such grand plans in my mind all these years of the benchmark date we would have to celebrate our decade anniversary together. But, oh how life has a way of keeping us humble sometimes. Being unemployed this year gave good reason for us to draw on our more creative abilities. Instead of a gracious and romantic night out together, we stayed home with the kids. I baked a cake similar to what was served at our reception so we could share a few of our memories with the kids. I guess I learned that #1, don't put off having special dates in hopes of saving up for a great big one at some later date! The resources may not be there later. Savor each year, and do something special, big or small to celebrate - every year. #2, the only people who are really going care and remember our anniversary as time goes on besides us, is our children. No one will be more intimately affected by the events of that day than our four sweet boys. We should take the opportunity to share special memories of that day with them. This year, we did!

Mothers Day

Mother's Day was a bit of a drag for me. Busy that weekend with having my piano recital, and taking care of a very sick Taylor, I was squelched out of the opportunity to even go to church to hear the children sing in Sacrament Meeting. Either way, I did manage to complete the grandchildren quilt I made for my mother-in-law, and made dinner for the Newby side of the family that day.

Jonathan's Baptism

It has been a very busy and unusual Spring for our family. A lot of unexpected circumstances have swirled about our household. But one that we have long anticipated was Jonathan's Baptism day. He was baptized on May 2nd. What a wonderful day and weekend that was for him and our family. We had a lot of family support. He truly let his great big spirit shine through. I know he has an understanding of the important convenant and step he took as he entered the waters of Baptism and took upon himself the name of Christ. We are so proud of his decision, and love the young man he is.

Our New Baby is Born

We welcomed our fourth child into our family on October 20, 2008. We named him Taylor Frazier Newby. He was born at 1:56pm, weighed 8lbs 3oz, and was 21" long. He is a very sweet baby boy who has already got everyone in the family by the heartstrings.

Hyrum's Broken Arm

Last Sunday, November 2nd, Hyrum fell from the top bunk (Jonathan's bed) and broke his arm. He and Jonathan were suppose to be making their beds and getting their church clothes on to be ready for church. But, boys will be boys, and they got to horsing around and Hyrum chased Jonathan up to his bed. The story goes that Jonathan nudged Hyrum off the bed in just such a way that Hyrum fell, landing in such a way so as to break his left arm. I was just across the hall in my room and was to him just as he landed. He managed to break both bones, the radius all the way in half. Hyrum got to spend the rest of Sunday in the Emergency room with Dad and Grandma. The Dr. concluded that he needed to have surgery in order to completely break the ulna apart, enabling both arm bones to be re-aligned properly. Monday morning surgery was complete, and Hyrum is finally on the mend. Check out this little video we took Sunday night when he got home from the Emergency Room...

Halloween

We celebrated Halloween with lots of style this year! We took the kids to Grandma Su's ward trunk-r-treat party on the Saturday before Halloween, which kicked off a crazy sugar filled week! Friday, Halloween finally came and the boys were ecstatic to get to go trick-or-treating. We let them get into their costumes late that afternoon and we got some pretty fun pictures of them. At 6:00 we were off to our own ward chili feed and Trunk-r-treating party. They each filled their buckets half full there alone! Then we took them around the neighborhoods for traditional door knocking. By 8:30 we were on our way over to the "Pumpkin House", one of Grandma's friends who carves 50-60 pumpkins the day before Halloween. We had fun looking at all the different pumpkin faces. We ended the night by stopping by Grandma's for homemade cinnamon rolls. It was just a perfect holiday for our family!

Jonathan

Jonathan is in 2nd grade this year. His teacher is Mrs. McClanahan. He's the class math whiz...he loves to do math. At home he likes to play "Age of Empires" on the computer, "Pirates of the Carribean" online.com with Dad & Hyrum, and play baseball out in the yard. He was able to be off on track break when the baby was born. He's been a huge help around the house. He, Hyrum & Dad spent 3 hours last Saturday raking up all the leaves on the East side of the house. He's been a real trooper, and is a great example to his younger brothers.
